Seeing blood in your stool can be alarming, but it can mean many things. It may indicate that you have a relatively minor problem, or a problem that requires a visit to your gastroenterologist. If you have blood in your stool, it is important to take note of any other symptoms you have and see if the problem persists.
Rectal bleeding can signal a problem at any point in your digestive tract, including your esophagus, stomach, intestines, and rectum. To assess the problem, the bleeding must be considered alongside other symptoms. The shade of blood can offer a clue as to the cause of your issue.
Keep an eye out for extreme changes in the color of your stool, especially if it appears bright red or almost black. This indicates an urgent problem. Also contact your doctor if you are experiencing cramps, abdominal pain, or lightheadedness.
