GERD Symptoms and Causes

BOOK APPOINTMENT
Also known as acid reflux disease, GERD occurs when stomach acid repeatedly flows back into the esophagus, causing an uncomfortable burning sensation.

Stomach acid can wear away the lining of the esophagus over time, leading to worse and worse symptoms if GERD is not addressed. Most people experience GERD at some point.

Avoiding acid reflux or at least relieving its symptoms can be achieved through a combination of diet changes and medication. Limit your consumption of foods and drinks that aggravate acid reflux, like fizzy sodas and alcohol. Taking antacids helps neutralize the excess stomach acid.
