Slower Growth Can Indicate Crohn’s Disease in Children

Slower Growth Can Indicate Crohn’s Disease in Children

BOOK APPOINTMENT

A delayed growth rate in children could be due to the presence of an undiagnosed inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).  This is especially a case for Crohn’s disease.  Other symptoms of inflammatory bowel in children include loss of appetite, persistent stomach pains, diarrhea, or bloody diarrhea.

Children who exhibit the aforementioned symptoms should be evaluated. Blood tests and endoscopy are regular procedures that help diagnose and distinguish Crohn’s disease from ulcerative colitis.

Family history has been known to play a role in the development of Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis.  There is an increased risk if a family history of IBD is present. The problem can be difficult to predict and prepare for.
