Hemorrhoids Beverly Hills
BOOK APPOINTMENTHow Do Hemorrhoids Occur?
Hemorrhoids are actually very similar to varicose veins in that they are caused by irritation of the veins. When the vein walls are stretched thin the vein tends to bulge out. As with varicose veins, hemorrhoids can cause aches and pains. Unlike with varicose veins, these can also occasionally result in bleeding.
Hemorrhoids happen for a variety of reasons, including heredity. A person whose family members experience hemorrhoids are more likely to develop them as well. There are a couple of other potential causes as well:
- Obesity or pregnancy can put additional strain on your rectum
- Pushing particularly hard while defecating, particularly during diarrhea
- Straining while performing particularly strenuous physical tasks, such as lifting
- Injuries to the anus or as a symptom of certain liver diseases
Regardless of the cause, hemorrhoids left untreated can cause patients a lot of discomfort and pain.
How Can Hemorrhoids Be Removed?
Just as with other conditions caused by irritated veins, the best course of action when fighting hemorrhoids is to fight the blockages in the veins. Although the pharmacy might offer several creams or suppositories to alleviate pain, ultimately you need the help of a professional in order to rid yourself of the cause. The staff at Beverly Hills Center for Digestive Health are experts at battling hemorrhoids and are well equipped to help free you of these irritating bulges.
Dr. Davidson has two primary methods of treating hemorrhoids:
- Infrared Coagulation – this non-surgical treatment uses small bursts of infrared light to cause the blood vessel to coagulate. The vein then shrinks and recedes over the course of a couple of weeks. This method is effective and generally has no post-treatment effects.
- Hemorrhoid Banding – banding procedures are also highly effective and has very low rates of recurrence following the treatment. Banding essentially chokes off the blood supply for the hemorrhoid, starving it out. Dr. Davidson uses the CRH O’Regan Hemorrhoid Removal System, which is one of the most comfortable and effective methods.
Complications
If an individual is affected by hemorrhoids, the resulting complications include blood clots. These can form in swollen veins, which result in the surrounding tissue becoming inflamed. Patients can recognize a blood clot forming by the appearance of the hemorrhoid. If it exhibits a blue, deep purple color, then there is a high chance that a blood clot has formed. Another complication is severe bleeding, which contributes to iron deficiency anemia. Regardless of the accompany conditions of hemorrhoids, it is recommended to see the gastroenterologist immediately for prompt diagnosis and treatment.
